Disgraced Qari Fatih Seferagic Leads Prayers in Times Square
Like many of you, the FACE team was devastated and disappointed at the recent events in NYC, regarding Fatih Seferagic’s invitation to lead public taraweeh prayers in Times Square and local masaajid, as well as at community interfaith events. FACE released an extensive report on Fatih in August 2021, detailing allegations of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, reckless transmission of an STD, misappropriation of funds, and more.

It’s about time that all of us (community members and outsiders) started listening to the voices of survivors such as the alleged victim. Organizations that support Muslim survivors (such as facetogether.org) deserve our full throated support. It’s the perpetrators of abuse who bring a bad name to the community and not those who support survivors.

Tampa, Florida, United States (05/18/2021) - The FACE Board, in cooperation with our FACE Executive Director, Alia Salem, has determined a perceived conflict of interest that exists between the accused party (Hassan Shibly) and Alia Salem. Thus, out of an abundance of caution, the FACE Board has requested Alia Salem to recuse herself from all parts of this investigation, which she did so willingly and promptly.
